Multilingual Speech Technologies

Multilingual Speech Technologies (MuST) is a research niche area affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering at North-West University. Our work is focused on the study of machine learning and statistical pattern recognition, with a strong track record of applying these in speech processing applications. We have a specific interest in deep learning techniques and their application in various domains, including speech and language processing.

MuST consists of North-West University researchers and students actively involved in statistical pattern recognition, machine learning and multilingual speech technology research. The core MuST research group is small but collaborates widely, and is active in various local and international research projects, working with partners and clients from industry, government, and NGOs.

MuST offers a postgraduate programme focussed on generalisation. Our students work alongside researchers to study various theories of generalisation and investigate how factors such as learning algorithms and network structures affect generalisation.
