CAIR student graduates cum laude

Wiebke Toussaint graduated cum laude with a Masters in Science in Computer Science at the University of Cape Town.

Her masters work investigated clustering techniques for generating daily residential energy consumption patterns in a developing country context with a highly variable population. In particular, she explored how an evaluation process that combines traditional quantitative metrics with qualitative measures derived through expert consultation can yield more useful clusters than a purely analytical approach.

She recently started with her PhD at the Technical University Delft in the Netherlands, where she is working in the Technology, Policy and Management faculty in the ICT research group of the Engineering Systems and Services department. Her research will look into the design of edge architectures for smart cyber-physical systems to realise large scale data processing and machine learning applications within distributed sensor networks. The use cases will primarily focus on smart grids.
